Behind The Design: British Race Poster <br/> Round 12 of the 2025 F1 season takes us but a stone's throw from our own home, Enstone. Nestled within rolling British hills and farms, Silverstone is the home of Formula One, having hosted the first ever F1 race back in 1950. And there's nothing more iconic at Silverstone than lashings of rain as the A525 rips through the British countryside. <br/> What was the initial spark or idea behind this poster? Silverstone is the home race for many of us here at Enstone, it’s a brilliant track full of intense racing, especially when it rains. Which, as we are in the UK, tends to happen a lot. I used this line of thought to create a poster that reflects the intensity of racing in the wet. <br/> Were there any unexpected challenges or breakthroughs during the process? This one was probably my most challenging yet. I had a lot of trials and tribulations trying to get the rain mist just right. Playing around with particle simulations and smoke to emulate the spray in wet conditions took a while and there are a lot of old drafts where it didn’t come out in the way I wanted it to. I also did a lot of work in the post render stage where I headed into photoshop to fine tune the lighting, focus and colouring of the poster to make it more impactful. <br/> How do you decide on the composition and layout for this poster? As you will have seen on the pre and post edit, the image has a lot more going on around it before I put it into the canvas, the aim is always to have the car as the central piece to the poster. I then tilted the image to create a greater sense of speed. Trying to capture the speed and intensity was key for this poster and it is a unique challenge to do that in a still image. <br/> What did you learn from creating this poster that you’ll carry into future projects? I learnt about using Volumetric Databases, particle simulations and leaned more into post-production in order to build rain patterns. The first two I hadn’t touched before using this poster and I am excited to develop my skills more in that area to produce work in the near future. Post-production is something I use every day and I’m also keen to start delving deeper into that too.
