Realism (1848-1900) Realism art began in France after the French Revolution of 1848. It emerged as an opposing view to Romanticism and focused on contemporary humanity and daily life. Realism can be listed as art movements and representatives, and one of the most influential leaders of the Realist movement is the French painter Gustave Courbet, who preferred to paint what he could physically see.
