Renaissance art is the art of painting, sculpture and decoration that emerged with its unique style in Italy in 1400, along with the developments in philosophy, literature, music and science in Europe. The art of the Renaissance period, known as the noblest period, was based on the art of the classical period. It has undergone a kind of transformation by adding the latest developments and current scientific knowledge absorbed from Northern European art. Renaissance art spread throughout Europe with the Renaissance Humanist philosophy and influenced all artists and their supporters in terms of new techniques and artistic approaches. Renaissance art marks the transition period of Europe from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Age. The sculptures of Nicola Pisano and his son Giovanni Pisano, who worked in Pisa, Siena and Pistoia in Italy in the late 13th and early 14th centuries, have distinct classical period influences, probably because they were influenced by old Roman sarcophagi. The most famous works of father and son are the Pisa Cathedral and Baptistery. In the same period as Giovanni Pisano, Giotto, a Florentine painter, developed a figurative understanding of painting. Compared to the works of his contemporaries and teacher Cimabue, this genre can be described as uniquely naturalistic, three-dimensional, realistic and classical period style.
